Have to do my US tax return.... argh! Why oh why can't they make it simple like Hong Kong's. And it's not like I actually have to pay taxes....

Had a glimpse of the illogical workings of our postal system today. A parcel sent as a parcel is the most expensive option. Sending a parcel as regular mail is less expensive. If I cut the tape on the wrapper and tie some string around it, the price drops by another $50. So the less well packed it is, the cheaper it is to send. Why they have to make me stick all those stamps on instead of printing a simple barcode sticker is beyond me.

Went to see my Grandma the other day. She's in what's called "Assisted Living", which is basically a euphemism for an elderly home. It was a bit sad to see her because she has Alzheimer's, so when I walked in she didn't even know who I am. I can see that she recognized me, but she couldn't remember what my name is. It's a horrible way to end up when you're old.

Got dragged to Home Depot today by my dad. Much as I like tools, spending 1.5 hrs in Home Depot is not exactly my favorite way of spending an afternoon of my vacation. Fortunately, the urgency of rushing over to Costco for some filet mignons for our BBQ prevailed, and we (mom, sis, and me) were released from utter boredom.

Have to stop playing PS2 and start practicing Kendo... dan exam is mid-Feb, right after I go back to HK... I just know I'm going to fail...aiya....

Been too long since last entry...

Took part in a Kendo tournament yesterday. Was utterly defeated 2 minutes into the round. But it was a good experience. Things happen so much quicker in a tournament than during normal practice.

My regular routine has been pretty much destroyed by the holiday season. Have to try hard to get back on track. Between Kendo and the gym my weekday nights are all occupied... still trying to find time to squeeze in some calligraphy lessons.

Rita leaving today. Really wish she doesn't have to.

Currently Playing: Love Hina OST

Had dinner at Hugo's last night. Hugo's is supposedly one of the best restaurant's in town. But the service was a little disappointing. The waiter appeared to be in a rush to put sour cream in my baked potato, and I ended up with sour cream splatter all over my plate. And when he brought the check, he handed it to my mom...I'll be going to Gaddi's with Rita on Saturday. Hopefully they'll do a better job

Been working on a project that requires me to use a pair of DC motors and do with them what ought to be done with servos. I want Jess's job... I bet she doesn't have budgetary concerns that force her to work with hardware that's not quite up to the job...

Currently Playing: Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No.2

Made a detour to the gun club today after lunch with my dad and bought something like 500 rounds of rifle and shotgun shots. They are now sitting unattended in the car in a public car park some 15 minutes away from the office. Talk about being a menace to public safety.

Bought a hakama last Saturday. A hakama is the traditional clothing you wear for Kendo. I still haven't figured out how to tie the straps. And the top looks like it will be awfully hot to wear.
